ABC News Sets Rules For Sept. 10 Debate Between Harris And Trump

The rules for the Sept. 10 debate between President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris have been released by ABC News. The debate, held at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, will be moderated by David Muir and Linsey Davis. This will be the first in-person debate between the two candidates.

There will be no audience in the room, and candidates will stand behind podiums for the duration of the debate. Microphones will be live only when it’s a candidate’s turn to speak. After a coin toss, Trump will give the final closing statement, while Harris will stand at the right-side podium. There will be no opening statements, and closing remarks will be limited to two minutes per candidate.

Each question will allow for a two-minute response from each candidate, with two-minute rebuttals and an extra minute for follow-up. Candidates are not allowed to use any props or pre-written notes on stage, but they will have a pen, a pad of paper, and water. Interaction with staff during commercial breaks is prohibited.

The debate will air live at 9 p.m. ET on ABC News, Disney+, and Hulu, with a pre-debate special starting at 8 p.m. titled “Race for the White House.” This debate marks a significant moment in the lead-up to the 2024 presidential election, with both candidates vying for the attention of undecided voters.
