AG Ken Paxton Vows To Protect Texans’ Gun Rights After Supreme Court Upholds State Fair Firearm Ban

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has promised to defend Texans’ right to carry firearms on public property following the Texas Supreme Court’s decision to uphold the State Fair of Texas’ ban on firearms. Paxton has filed a lawsuit, arguing that the city of Dallas and the fair violated state law by preventing lawful gun owners from carrying their firearms at the event.

The Supreme Court declined to intervene in the case, which has left many Texans concerned about their ability to defend themselves in public spaces. Paxton stated, “Texans have a right to lawfully carry, and the City of Dallas has no authority to contract their rights away to a private entity.” He vowed to continue the legal battle, with a trial set for June 2025.

The case centers on whether a private entity like the State Fair can enforce a gun ban on publicly leased land. Justice Jimmy Blalock’s opinion raised questions about whether Texas law explicitly permits carrying firearms at such public events, noting that the state’s filings did not address this crucial point.

Paxton has also announced plans to collaborate with the Texas Legislature to strengthen protections for gun owners. As the legal battle continues, Paxton has committed to ensuring that Texans’ Second Amendment rights remain protected.
