Attorney General Pam Bondi has wasted no time in advancing President Donald Trump’s mission to overhaul the Department of Justice. Within days of taking office, Bondi has taken decisive action against sanctuary cities and initiated a full-scale review of politically motivated prosecutions.
One of her most immediate actions was creating the Weaponization Working Group, which will investigate whether federal agencies have been used for political purposes. The group’s review will focus on cases linked to January 6, ensuring that no prosecutions were driven by partisan motivations rather than legal merit.
Bondi also signed an order cutting off federal funding to sanctuary cities, halting taxpayer dollars from flowing to jurisdictions that refuse to enforce immigration laws. The new directive blocks DOJ grants and contracts from going to cities that protect illegal immigrants from deportation.
In addition to stripping sanctuary cities of federal funding, Bondi has directed the DOJ to identify officials who may have engaged in politically motivated legal actions. The Trump administration is determined to remove those who used government resources to target political opponents.
These rapid reforms align with Trump’s broader effort to restore integrity to federal law enforcement and eliminate bureaucratic roadblocks to his administration’s policies. Bondi’s approach signals that the DOJ will no longer be a tool for partisan interests.
With these changes already in motion, more directives are expected in the coming weeks as the administration works to reshape the DOJ and federal law enforcement agencies.
