A father in northern California is being celebrated as a hero after stopping a violent home invader who attacked his children. The incident occurred in Citrus Heights, where Bobby Tucker, a security guard, confronted the intruder in his home at around 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Tucker recounted the terrifying moment he found the intruder assaulting his 14-year-old son. “He jumped on my son from behind, choking him to the ground,” Tucker said. The attacker then moved towards Tucker’s 11-year-old child. Acting on instinct, Tucker intervened, fighting the intruder to protect his children.
“My mind was completely clear,” Tucker recalled. “I wasn’t thinking of anything, just getting that guy off my son. I admit I blanked out for a while, probably scared my kids too. Hitting the guy, hitting the guy and I could hear them saying someone call 911.”
The Citrus Heights police arrived and took the intruder into custody. The suspect, who will face felony burglary and assault charges, was unresponsive when paramedics arrived and had to be carried out on a stretcher. Tucker shared images of the intruder before he entered the home and after he was subdued.
The father explained that the door was unlocked because his children had just taken out the trash. “He chose the wrong house to mess with,” Tucker said, emphasizing the importance of home security. He advised homeowners to keep their doors locked, have an alarm system, and be prepared with self-defense tools such as mace or a firearm.
Following the traumatic incident, Tucker is seeking therapy for his children, whose sense of security has been deeply affected. Despite the ordeal, Tucker will not face any charges for defending his family. The intruder, a 29-year-old man, remains in custody.
Citrus Heights, with a population of around 86,000, is located approximately 15 miles northeast of Sacramento. Surveillance footage and Tucker’s images were featured on KXTV’s news broadcast, providing a stark reminder of the importance of home security and vigilance.
