Hadja Lahbib, the European Commissioner in charge of crisis management, recently urged families to prepare for at least three days of self-sufficiency. Her recommendations included items like canned goods, water, flashlights and essential medication. The message followed growing alarm about potential threats to the continent.

Several EU nations are taking additional steps. France is working to send a survival guide to every household. Germany is studying the conversion of buildings into bunkers. Sweden has already adjusted its civil emergency advice, updating instructions last used during the Cold War.

The ReArm Europe initiative, backed by €800 billion, will further expand the region’s military resources. This includes funding for weapons systems, cyber defense and other war-related technology. Defense companies in Europe stand to benefit significantly.

President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer have discussed sending troops into Ukraine after any ceasefire. Russia’s government strongly rejected that possibility, warning that NATO-aligned military forces in Ukraine would be seen as a serious threat.
Poland is now making military training mandatory for men and is discussing whether to seek its own nuclear capabilities. Prime Minister Donald Tusk argued that disarming like Ukraine did left that nation open to invasion.
