Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) has stirred political discussions with his recent prediction on his podcast, “The Verdict.” Cruz speculates that the Democratic Party might replace President Joe Biden with Michelle Obama as their 2024 presidential candidate.
According to Cruz, Biden’s lackluster performance in the latest debate has triggered widespread concern among Democrats. “I believe the odds are north of 80% that the Democrat Party will remove Joe Biden from the ticket and replace him,” Cruz asserted. He suggested that Michelle Obama could be the party’s solution to reinvigorate their campaign.
Michelle Obama remains a highly regarded figure within the Democratic Party, and Cruz sees her as a unifying candidate who can appeal to a diverse voter base. Cruz explained that her nomination could prevent former President Donald Trump from regaining power and restore a sense of stability within the party.
However, Cruz acknowledged two major hurdles. Firstly, Michelle Obama has consistently expressed no interest in running for office. Secondly, convincing Biden to step aside would be a significant challenge. Cruz anticipates that key Democratic figures, including former President Barack Obama, will attempt to persuade Michelle, emphasizing the urgency and importance of her candidacy.
Cruz’s theory isn’t new. He previously mentioned in September 2023 that Michelle Obama might be the Democrats’ choice. While initially it seemed unlikely, the recent debate fallout has given his prediction more weight.
One strategic advantage of nominating Michelle Obama, according to Cruz, is that it avoids internal conflicts among the current Democratic frontrunners. “If you pick from any one of the four, the other three are pissed,” Cruz stated. Michelle Obama, as a former First Lady, could transcend these rivalries and unify the party.
Cruz elaborated on the potential implications of her candidacy. “Michelle Obama, because she was First Lady, has the ability to kind of parachute in above all four,” he said. Her entry would represent a strategic shift, positioning the Democrats to combat Trump’s potential resurgence and aiming to secure a win in the 2024 election.
