Dakota Tom’s Cheeseburgers Recalled Amid Listeria Contamination Fears

Dakota Tom’s Sandwiches has issued a voluntary recall of several cheeseburger products in response to concerns over potential Listeria contamination. The recall affects three specific products: the “Pepperjack Cheeseburger,” the “Bacon Cheeseburger,” and “The Gambler.” The affected items were distributed to stores in North and South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, and Wyoming.

The recall follows a broader meat recall from BrucePac, a supplier that recalled nearly 10 million pounds of meat due to Listeria risks earlier this month. That number has since increased to 11.8 million pounds, raising alarms for consumers and businesses alike.

While no illnesses have been reported as of yet, Dakota Tom’s is advising customers to avoid consuming the recalled cheeseburgers. According to the FDA, Listeria monocytogenes is a harmful bacterium that can lead to severe infections, especially in young children, the elderly, and those with compromised immune systems. For pregnant women, the risk is particularly high, as Listeria infections can lead to miscarriages or stillbirths.

Consumers are encouraged to return the affected sandwiches to the store for a refund or discard them. This recall comes as part of a larger food safety alert, with the USDA posting a comprehensive list of affected meat and poultry products. Schools were also among the locations receiving some of the recalled items, raising further concern.
