DNC Officials Frustrated As David Hogg Raises Money For His Own PAC

David Hogg’s rapid ascent to Democratic National Committee (DNC) vice chairman has sparked controversy, as some party officials claim he is using DNC contact lists to solicit donations for his own political action committee (PAC) rather than for the party itself. While his actions do not break party rules, critics say they undermine the DNC’s fundraising efforts.

Since taking on the role, Hogg has sent out fundraising messages to DNC contacts promoting Leaders We Deserve, a PAC he co-founded in 2023. The organization claims to support young progressive candidates, but financial records show that it has also paid Hogg over $175,000 since its creation, including more than $20,000 in December.

One of the fundraising texts stated, “David Hogg here: I was just elected DNC Vice Chair! This is a huge win for our movement to make the Democratic Party more reflective of our base: youthful, energetic, and ready to win.” The message included a link leading directly to his PAC’s donation page.

His decision to use DNC resources for personal fundraising has angered some within the party. One senior Democrat criticized the move, calling it a “stunning lack of judgment.” Another remarked, “It’s especially important for all Democratic national officials to focus on raising support for the party and not using their position to raise money for themselves or their personal political PACs.”

Hogg gained national attention in 2018 after surviving the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. His activism propelled him into the political spotlight, where he has supported left-wing policies such as defunding law enforcement and dismantling ICE. His positions have been divisive, even among Democrats, and his latest controversy has added to the skepticism surrounding his leadership.

Cameron Kasky, who also survived the Parkland shooting, voiced his concerns about Hogg’s influence in the party. “I mean it’s just very frustrating to be in a party in desperate need of increased accountability for our struggling leadership, and watch someone who is never held accountable ascend to leadership,” he said.

Hogg refused to provide a comment on the issue but later released a statement through a spokesperson saying he has raised money for the DNC as well.
