In a recent interview with Axios, Donald Trump Jr. cautioned Republicans against complacency as the 2024 general election approaches. Speaking from Milwaukee, where the Republican National Convention is being held, Trump Jr. emphasized the need for continued effort and vigilance in the campaign for his father, former President Donald Trump.
“People are like, ‘Oh, after Saturday it’s over,'” Trump Jr. said, referring to the recent assassination attempt on his father at a rally in Pennsylvania. He quickly dispelled this notion, insisting, “Nothing is over,” and urging campaign members to “keep our foot on the gas every second of the day” until the election in November.
Trump Jr. voiced his belief that the Democrats would stop at nothing to defeat his father, stating, “There’s no level the other side won’t go. There’s no nonsense they won’t play.” He suggested that if Trump loses the election, it would likely be due to “cheating” by the opposition.
Trump Jr. also underscored the importance of downballot races, highlighting the need to secure the Senate and maintain the GOP majority in the House. “I think you have to win across the board and not just even congressional or Senate races. I mean, I want to win legislatures. I want to win school boards,” he explained.
Discussing the influence of media mogul Rupert Murdoch among conservatives, Trump Jr. remarked that Murdoch’s power “is not what it used to be.” He added, “There was a time where if you wanted to survive in the Republican Party, you had to bend the knee to him or to others. I don’t think that’s the case anymore.”
As the GOP gears up for the 2024 election, Trump Jr.’s remarks highlight the party’s strategy to maintain momentum, focus on both national and local races, and remain vigilant against any potential challenges from the opposition.
