Elon Musk is taking additional security measures after being branded “Public Enemy No. 2” by German media outlet Der Spiegel. Musk, who has been a vocal supporter of Donald Trump, accused the media of encouraging violence against him and Trump, warning that their portrayals are making both men prime targets.
At a Pittsburgh town hall, Musk discussed the rising political tension ahead of the 2024 election. He expressed concern about the Der Spiegel cover, which labeled him and Trump as enemies of democracy. Musk claimed that this kind of media coverage is increasing the likelihood of assassination attempts. “With their relentless hit pieces, legacy mainstream media are actively encouraging the assassination of @realDonaldTrump and now me,” he said on X.
Musk has supported Trump’s campaign for months and has pledged significant financial backing to pro-Trump causes. In light of recent threats, Musk announced that he is upgrading his security, referencing President Kennedy’s assassination in a light-hearted comment about canceling open-car parades. Despite the danger, Musk affirmed his commitment to free speech and the importance of fair elections.
Musk also noted the heightened hostility coming from the left, describing it as unprecedented. He remarked that while right-leaning individuals tend to view their political opponents as misguided, the left has become far more aggressive and intolerant in its rhetoric.
