Gavin Newsom Pressures Biden To Censor Critics As Wildfires Expose Failures

As wildfires continue to destroy communities across California, Gov. Gavin Newsom is focusing on silencing criticism rather than solving the crisis. Newsom recently urged President Joe Biden to combat what he calls “misinformation,” raising concerns about government overreach and suppression of free speech.

During a video call with Biden, Newsom warned about “hurricane-force winds of mis- and disinformation,” claiming online criticism is making the situation worse. His remarks come as thousands of Californians are forced to evacuate while firefighters struggle with limited resources. Instead of prioritizing emergency response, Newsom seems more interested in controlling the narrative.

California’s firefighting efforts have been severely hampered by years of budget cuts and mismanagement. Under Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, the city’s fire department has been left understaffed and underfunded. Additionally, Newsom’s refusal to release water from the California Delta has made firefighting even more difficult, leaving hydrants dry when they are needed most.

Former President Donald Trump directly criticized Newsom’s environmental policies, which prioritize protecting wildlife over ensuring public safety. “They send it out to the Pacific because they’re trying to protect a tiny, little fish,” Trump said, highlighting how misguided regulations have worsened the state’s wildfire crisis.

Newsom’s demand for Biden to crack down on criticism mirrors a larger trend among Democrat leaders who label opposing views as “disinformation.” This raises serious concerns about using federal agencies, like the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), to suppress speech that challenges their leadership.

Rather than taking responsibility for his administration’s failures, Newsom is deflecting blame and targeting critics. This approach allows him to avoid addressing the very real issues that have left California vulnerable to disaster.

Californians need strong leadership that focuses on solutions — not a governor who hides behind censorship to escape accountability.
