Human Trafficking Epidemic Addressed By Trump Administration

President Donald Trump’s administration is prioritizing the fight against human trafficking, focusing on children exploited at the southern border. Stephen Miller, the president’s top advisor on immigration, stated, “This administration is going to investigate every instance of child trafficking, labor trafficking, s–x trafficking, child smuggling, and all the attendant crimes involved in that.”

Recent testimony revealed the impact of failed policies under the Biden-Harris administration. During a congressional hearing, Tara Rodas, a whistleblower from HHS, described how unaccompanied minors were placed with individuals who had not been properly vetted. Rodas testified that criminal organizations, including gangs, exploited federal programs to traffic these children.

Retired Border Patrol agent J.J. Carrell provided chilling accounts of organ harvesting, explaining how vulnerable children are targeted after crossing the border. Counter-trafficking expert Alicia Hopper added that cartels monitor border policies to use federal processes against the United States. Hopper noted that children are often handed over to sponsors without full background checks being completed.

Lisa, who runs a nonprofit to combat trafficking, stated that most trafficking rings she investigates now involve migrant girls. She reported that platforms like TikTok and Facebook have been flooded with ads for these victims, many of them written in Spanish. Lisa said the surge in these cases began shortly after Biden took office.

According to government data, more than 291,000 minors were released without being issued court dates between 2019 and 2024. Federal officials have lost track of over 85,000 children placed with sponsors, and nearly 20% of sponsors were approved before their background checks were completed.

Customs and Border Protection reports show that over 500,000 unaccompanied minors have crossed the southern border since 2021.
