Patricia Sierra, 47, has been arrested by Las Vegas police after she allegedly stole a casket from a local funeral home and dumped the body outside. The incident occurred on August 27, 2024, when police were called to the Affordable Cremation and Burial Service, where they found the body of a woman in her sixties lying on rocks outside the building.
According to police, surveillance video showed Sierra breaking into the funeral home and stealing a casket containing the woman’s body. The footage was crucial in identifying Sierra, who was later recognized by a person at a convenience store. Authorities arrested her two days after the incident.
When questioned by police, Sierra reportedly admitted to the crime but said she didn’t remember the events. She told officers that she had consumed six beers and blacked out, leading to a loss of memory. Sierra was apologetic during questioning, saying she wasn’t trying to act maliciously.
Sierra faces serious charges, including grand larceny, burglary, and disturbing human remains. Her bail was set at $11,000, and her preliminary hearing is scheduled for September 18, 2024. The disturbing nature of the crime has shocked residents, and the funeral home is reviewing its security protocols in light of the incident.
