Maher Accuses Media Of Twisting Trump’s Remarks About Liz Cheney

Bill Maher recently criticized the media for allegedly misrepresenting President Donald Trump’s remarks about former Rep. Liz Cheney. In a Real Time Overtime segment, Maher responded to headlines suggesting Trump called for Cheney’s execution, calling the coverage dishonest.

Maher read Trump’s full statement, which said, “Let’s put her with a rifle standing there,” and argued that Trump’s comment was about Cheney’s support for military action, not a threat. Maher noted that this sentiment reflects long-standing anti-war views, saying, “This is what peace advocates have always said about war hawks.”

“I don’t like Trump, but don’t lie to me,” Maher added, calling for honesty from the media. His criticism highlights a wider frustration with sensationalized reporting, especially in stories involving divisive figures.

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), who was a guest on the show, also agreed, saying that while he disagrees with Trump, the media’s portrayal of his comment was “absurd and counterproductive.” Raskin acknowledged that misrepresenting facts serves no purpose.

Maher’s comments come as many Americans question the reliability of mainstream news, especially in light of recent job reports showing weak growth outside the public sector under the Harris-Biden administration. The media’s focus on the Cheney remark has led to questions about its priorities and accuracy.
