New Orleans Attack Spurs Manhunt For Terror Cell Suspects

Authorities are hunting a suspected terror cell following a New Year’s attack in New Orleans that killed 10 and injured 30. The attacker, 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar, was identified as the perpetrator behind the violence, which combined a vehicle assault with a shooting.

The FBI revealed that Jabbar carried an ISIS flag during the attack. Investigators found guns and bombs hidden in his truck, with the explosives wired for remote detonation. A detonator was also recovered, confirming plans for further destruction.

Footage from the area captured three men and one woman placing bombs around the French Quarter. The FBI has stated they do not believe Jabbar acted alone and are investigating his associates to dismantle the suspected cell.

Louisiana officials confirmed the ongoing manhunt. Gov. Jeff Landry said law enforcement is “hunting some bad people down,” while Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) affirmed the FBI’s commitment to catching the perpetrators.

Jabbar’s erratic behavior reportedly escalated during his conversion to Islam, according to his ex-wife’s husband. Federal agents searched her home as part of the investigation into Jabbar’s potential links to ISIS.

Publicly available flight tracker data indicates the FBI Hostage Rescue Team is in New Orleans, with experts noting the team’s quick reaction capabilities are critical for addressing complex terror threats.
