New York City parents are furious after their children’s school was commandeered by officials to house almost 2,000 illegal migrants. James Madison High School students were dismissed for Wednesday and forced to resort to remote learning to house the illegals.
Weather forecasters predicted severe rainfall and high winds as a storm moved in from the South. The migrants had been sheltered in a giant tent at Brooklyn’s Floyd Bennett Field.
City Hall spokeswoman Kayla Mamelak attempted to put a positive spin on booting 2,000 high school students from their classrooms.

She claimed “this relocation is a proactive measure being taken out of an abundance of caution to ensure the safety and wellbeing of individuals working and living at the center.”
New York City councilmember Inna Vernikov lashed out at officials for prioritizing illegal migrants over native students. She posted on X, formerly Twitter, “We warned you! As predicted, Floyd Bennett Field is not a sustainable shelter facility!”
Vernikov added that public schools exist for student learning. They were never, she declared, “intended to be shelters or facilities for emergency housing.”
The New York Post reported one woman screamed at the buses filled with illegal migrants as they arrived. “How does it feel that you kicked all the kids out of school tomorrow?”
Democratic Mayor Eric Adams’ office said the migrants would be housed at the school “until any weather conditions that may arise have stabilized and the facility is once again fit for living.”
Officials in the “sanctuary” city believe it has absorbed over 160,000 illegal migrants since last summer. Some of that number were bused in through a program enacted by Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott to relocate border crossers to a more welcoming environment.
In a recent speech, Adams warned that the illegal migrant crisis would “destroy” the sanctuary city.
His administration has cut budgets for police work and education to support the incoming migrants. Meanwhile, Adams joined the growing chorus of Democratic mayors demanding a bailout from Washington as their migrant numbers increase.
But the nation’s largest city only got a taste of what Texas border towns endure on a regular basis. Until the Biden White House gets serious about controlling illegal immigration, the invasion will only get worse.
