Putin Claims Ukraine Conflict Would Not Have Happened If Trump Won 2020 Election

Russian President Vladimir Putin asserted that the war in Ukraine could have been avoided if President Donald Trump had secured a second term in the White House. In a recent interview, Putin suggested that the current situation would have unfolded differently had Trump remained in office.

During the interview, Putin expressed confidence in Trump’s leadership, describing him as a practical decision-maker who would not have allowed the conflict to escalate. He reiterated that Russia is willing to negotiate a resolution to the ongoing war, emphasizing that Moscow has always been open to dialogue.

Putin’s remarks were made as Russian officials continue to criticize the West for supplying Ukraine with weapons. Moscow argues that the support Kyiv receives from Western nations is preventing meaningful diplomatic discussions and prolonging hostilities.

President Donald Trump has repeatedly stated that he could have ended the war quickly if he had been in charge. Recently, he warned Russia that severe economic consequences, such as tariffs and sanctions, could follow if a peace deal is not reached soon. Trump shared this message on Truth Social, calling for a swift resolution.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s office responded by insisting that any potential negotiations must involve European representatives. Kyiv’s position remains that a peace deal cannot be reached without broad international involvement.

According to reports, previous peace efforts may have been derailed due to outside influence. Russian officials claim that Ukraine was initially open to negotiations but faced pressure from Western powers to abandon talks.
