Report: FEMA Giving Disaster Relief To Illegal Migrants In North Carolina

A report from the Washington Post has revealed that illegal migrants in North Carolina are receiving disaster aid from FEMA following Hurricane Helene. The aid, meant to help those affected by the storm, is raising questions about the government overlooking suffering Americans to provide resources to people who shouldn’t be in the country at all.

Migrants who own businesses or have U.S.-born children are reportedly eligible for certain types of aid, such as FEMA’s $750 “Serious Needs Assistance” grant. Silvia Martín del Campo, a local community college program director, noted that some migrants are contributing to the economy through taxes, despite their illegal status.

Critics of the federal government’s policies argue that this aid should be reserved for U.S. citizens who have been impacted by the hurricane. They believe that providing disaster relief to illegal migrants encourages more people to cross the border illegally and benefits them at the expense of American taxpayers.

The Biden administration has been criticized for its handling of immigration, particularly in how federal funds are being used to support migrants. FEMA has spent nearly $1 billion assisting migrants since 2021, a figure that has further fueled the debate.

Some believe that disaster aid would be better spent helping migrants return to their home countries, thus reducing competition for jobs and social services in the U.S. Mark Krikorian from the Center for Immigration Studies suggested that this approach would benefit both the U.S. and the migrants’ nations.
