Republican Lawmakers Respond To Leaked Secret Illegal Immigration Deal

Many Republican lawmakers are calling out their Republican colleagues in the Senate after learning about a secret “deal” in the works with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) regarding illegal immigrants.

The details of a Senate immigration bill were leaked on Saturday by the Immigration Accountability Project, a political advocacy group that supports stricter border security policies.

The deal would supposedly include the allowing of 5,000 illegal immigrants to cross the border daily into the country, granting of work permits to H-1B visa holders’ adult children and would automatically grant work permits to undocumented illegals after they are released from custody.

The deal would also increase the number of green cards given by 50,000 and restrict parole for those who illegally cross.

Rep. Mary Miller (R-IL) was one of the lawmakers calling out Republican senators who were in favor of the bill. In her post on X, Miller wrote that she will vote no on the deal and said that lawmakers need to “put America first.”

Miller had company in criticizing the deal. Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA) also said that he would vote no.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene retweeted Johnson’s tweet, writing that the only solution for the border crisis would be HR2.

Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) also stood with Miller, agreeing with Greene on the HR2 solution to the border.

Rep. Matt Gaetz also slammed the deal, calling it a “nightmare” for considering allowing 5,000 illegal immigrants into the country every day.

Sen. James Lankford (R-OK) is leading the deal with Schumer.

In defense, the senator made his own X post, encouraging people to read the immigration border bill before making a judgment. He said, “A lie will go round the world while truth is pulling its boots on.”

Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) also defended the bill, stating that Lankford is forcing the Biden administration to secure the border.
