The son of Ryan Wesley Routh, who is accused of attempting to assassinate President Donald Trump, was arrested on federal child exploitation charges in North Carolina. Oran Alexander Routh, 35, was taken into custody after investigators discovered hundreds of files of child pornography on electronic devices seized from his Guilford County home.
The arrest followed a search tied to the investigation of Ryan Routh’s alleged assassination attempt on Trump at his Florida golf club. During the search, investigators found two Samsung Galaxy Note devices that contained disturbing content, including videos of adults sexually abusing children as young as six years old. The criminal complaint states that Oran Routh participated in online chats commonly used to distribute illicit material.
Oran Routh faces charges of receiving and possessing child pornography, both of which carry serious penalties under federal law. His arrest comes just days after his father was charged with possession of a firearm as a convicted felon, following the failed assassination attempt on Trump. Prosecutors are seeking additional charges for Ryan Routh, including an assassination attempt.
Previously, Oran Routh defended his father in an interview, calling him non-violent and suggesting that he disliked Trump but wasn’t capable of such an act. However, the legal issues facing both father and son have raised questions about their background and activities, especially given Ryan Routh’s history of criminal behavior, including a standoff with police in Greensboro, North Carolina.
As the investigations continue, both Rouths face serious legal challenges that could result in lengthy prison sentences.
