A media group, largely funded by billionaire George Soros, is expanding its operations in Nevada, pushing out anti-Trump content through a local news site. Courier Newsroom, led by Democrat operative Tara McGowan, added The Nevadan to its collection of local outlets in swing states. The organization’s messaging, often pushed through targeted digital ads, features stories meant to discredit Republicans and support figures like Vice President Kamala Harris and Sen. Jacky Rosen (D-NV).
Critics argue that Courier’s content is misleading. A notable example includes a false claim suggesting former President Donald Trump would reinstate a military draft, a notion Trump has firmly denied. Despite branding itself as a legitimate news source, the operation has been accused of engaging in deceptive tactics to sway voters. In fact, a 2020 review by NewsGuard labeled Courier a “clandestine political operation” designed to mislead voters by masking partisan content as unbiased news.
Ex-employees have confirmed that this approach is intentional. The strategy involves first hooking readers with non-political content, then gradually feeding them pro-Democrat messaging during election cycles. McGowan’s network has been financially backed by Democrat donors like Reid Hoffman and Soros, who reportedly funneled $20 million into the operation. Although the Federal Election Commission ruled Courier qualifies as a news organization and is exempt from financial disclosure rules, it has invested millions in Facebook ads promoting Democrat candidates.
Originally owned by dark money group ACRONYM, which counts Laurene Powell Jobs among its backers, Courier split off in 2021 as McGowan founded Good Information Inc., continuing its mission to push left-leaning narratives under the guise of local journalism.
