Trump-Backed Bill Aims To Expand Gun Rights Nationwide

A new bill introduced by House Republicans could provide nationwide recognition for concealed carry permits, giving millions of Americans greater protection for their Second Amendment rights. The Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act (H.R. 38), led by Rep. Richard Hudson (R-NC), has the support of President Donald Trump and over 120 GOP lawmakers.

The bill allows permit holders to carry concealed firearms in any state, provided they adhere to local regulations. It also extends these protections to residents of Constitutional Carry states, ensuring they can legally travel with firearms across state lines.

Hudson underscored the importance of this legislation for gun owners. “This is about common sense and protecting the rights of citizens to defend themselves wherever they are,” he said.

Gun rights organizations have celebrated the proposal as a major step forward. A spokesperson for Gun Owners of America described it as “one of the most significant reforms for firearm owners in recent history.” These groups argue that the current system is overly complicated and puts responsible gun owners at risk.

Even after the Supreme Court’s 2022 ruling affirming the right to carry firearms, restrictive states like New York and California have enacted additional barriers. These include broad limitations on where firearms can be carried, making it difficult for permit holders to navigate legal requirements.

If passed, the bill would benefit approximately 22 million Americans with concealed carry permits and many more from states without permit requirements. By ensuring reciprocity across all states, the legislation aims to simplify laws and strengthen constitutional protections.
