Trump Claims Greenland In The Name Of National Security

President-elect Donald Trump has underscored the necessity of U.S. control over Greenland, describing it as a vital asset for national defense and global stability. Trump made the comments while announcing Ken Howery as his pick for U.S. Ambassador to Denmark.

“For purposes of National Security and Freedom throughout the World, the United States of America feels that the ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity,” Trump said in a social media post on Sunday.

Trump pointed to Russia and China’s growing influence in the Arctic as a major concern, noting their substantial military and scientific investments. He argued that acquiring Greenland would help counter those threats and secure U.S. dominance in the region.

Greenland, with its strategic location and resources, is critical to Arctic competition. Trump suggested that U.S. ownership would enable better defense operations and economic opportunities, putting America ahead in the global race for the Arctic.

Ken Howery, nominated to be ambassador to Denmark, has an extensive background in business and diplomacy. Trump highlighted Howery’s achievements as a co-founder of PayPal and his successful term as U.S. Ambassador to Sweden.

Trump described Howery as the ideal candidate to represent U.S. interests abroad, particularly as America navigates its strategy in the Arctic.
