Trump Criticizes FBI Over DEI Office Closure, Calls Timing Suspicious

President Donald Trump has strongly criticized the FBI’s decision to close its Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI) in December 2024, just days before his inauguration. Trump has demanded that the agency retain all documents related to the closure, which he believes was politically motivated.

“We demand that the FBI preserve and retain all records, documents, and information on the now closing DEI Office—Never should have been opened and, if it was, should have closed long ago,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Why is it that they’re closing one day before the Inauguration of a new Administration? The reason is, CORRUPTION!”

While the FBI confirmed the closure of the ODI, it did not provide an explanation for the decision. The timing of the closure has raised concerns among Trump’s supporters and critics, fueling speculation about the FBI’s intentions.

Throughout his campaign, Trump has opposed diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs, arguing that they divert attention from critical government functions. His pick for FBI director, Kash Patel, has been vocal in his opposition to DEI efforts, which he believes detract from national security priorities.

Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) has also expressed concerns over the FBI’s DEI initiatives. In a recent letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray, Blackburn warned that such programs could undermine the bureau’s ability to focus on its primary mission of safeguarding the American people.

Across the nation, DEI programs are facing increasing scrutiny, with several institutions cutting back or eliminating such initiatives in response to growing public opposition.
