Recent polling shows that nearly half of federal government employees are preparing to resist President-elect Donald Trump’s incoming administration. This troubling statistic suggests that Trump should consider reforms aimed at streamlining the federal workforce and reducing internal opposition.
RMG Research reports that 42% of federal employees intend to resist Trump’s policies. Among Democrat-identifying federal workers, the number rises to 73%, while 89% of Republican government employees support Trump’s agenda. This stark divide points to the deep-rooted political bias embedded within government agencies.
To address this challenge, Trump could reinstate the Schedule F employment classification. This tool would allow the administration to reassign or remove employees who obstruct executive directives. Implementing such reforms could help ensure that federal agencies are held accountable and responsive to the President’s policies.
The gap between the federal workforce and everyday Americans is significant. RMG Research found that 59% of Main Street Americans support Trump’s policy plans, while only 28% favor bureaucratic resistance. In contrast, the political elite are more inclined to back opposition within federal agencies.
Federal employees are tasked with implementing the policies set by elected officials, not advancing their personal political beliefs. Strengthening accountability measures could help ensure that government operations align with the interests of voters.
By focusing on bureaucratic reform early in his term, Trump can minimize internal resistance and improve government efficiency. Restoring tools like Schedule F could be a strategic step in creating a more accountable and responsive federal workforce.
