Wisconsin Faces Crisis Without Trump, Sheriff Says Border Issue Worsening

Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt has warned that Wisconsin will face severe consequences if President Donald Trump loses the upcoming election. Testifying during a House Judiciary Committee hearing in Milwaukee, Schmidt expressed concern over the escalating border crisis and its impact on law enforcement resources in Wisconsin.

As president of the Badger State Sheriffs Association, Schmidt reported that the border crisis is affecting communities statewide, resulting in higher crime rates and strained resources for law enforcement. “If Trump doesn’t win this election, we are screwed,” Schmidt said, quoting one of his fellow sheriffs. He noted that many people do not fully understand the gravity of the situation.

Schmidt shared details from Dodge County, highlighting how drug trafficking from Mexican cartels has become a growing problem. “I’m fearful for my family and the families of those who work with me,” he stated, emphasizing the risks posed by cartel violence and narcotics.

He also described the difficulties officers face when stopping individuals who lack identification or licenses, making it hard to enforce the law effectively. Schmidt called for federal action, stating, “We need a secure southern border to keep our communities safe.”

Schmidt thanked Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) for his presence at the hearing but criticized Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) for her absence, questioning her commitment to addressing these pressing issues.

Eric Toney, the district attorney for Fond du Lac County, also testified, highlighting the surge in drug trafficking in his jurisdiction. “We’ve seen a rise in drug quantities that we’ve never seen before,” he said. Toney pointed out that the increasing number of illegal immigrants being prosecuted is straining county jail capacities, forcing counties to look into expanding their facilities.

Republicans, including President Trump and Senate candidate Eric Hovde, are focusing on the border crisis in their campaigns, emphasizing the urgent need for federal action to secure the border and protect communities in Wisconsin.
