Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein has accused Democrats of using underhanded tactics to keep her off the ballot in multiple states, describing the party as “anti-democratic.” In a Breitbart interview, Stein claimed that Democrats are working to eliminate political competition, particularly in battleground states like Wisconsin, where legal challenges have intensified.
The Democratic National Committee (DNC) has filed a petition with the Wisconsin Supreme Court seeking to block the Green Party from appearing on the state’s ballot. The petition argues that Stein’s campaign does not meet the legal criteria for appointing electors, a requirement for ballot access in Wisconsin. This is the latest move in what Stein describes as a coordinated campaign by Democrats to restrict third-party candidates.
Stein’s campaign responded forcefully, with campaign strategist Jason Call calling the lawsuit “frivolous” and accusing the DNC of exploiting gaps in Wisconsin’s election laws.
Stein herself criticized both major parties for manipulating the system to stifle competition, but reserved particular scorn for the Democrats, who she claims have been especially aggressive in their efforts to sideline her campaign.
“If this is how the Democrats want to play, we will play hardball right back,” Stein said, vowing to nominate more candidates in Wisconsin races in response. She also pointed out that Democrats have boasted about deploying high-powered legal teams to challenge her campaign.
Stein’s battle for ballot access is reflective of a broader issue facing third-party candidates, who often encounter legal obstacles designed to maintain the dominance of the two-party system.
