GOP Establishment Fumes As Vance Questions Another War Without A Goal

Vice President J.D. Vance is once again under attack from the Washington war crowd — this time for suggesting that military strikes should come with a clear explanation and connection to U.S. interests. The backlash didn’t come in the form of debate. Instead, a series of anonymous Republican senators complained to Jewish Insider about Vance’s input in a private national security chat.

Vance had questioned the urgency of launching strikes against the Houthis in Yemen and suggested that American voters deserved a clear message before action was taken. He also pointed out that the crisis was having a greater impact on European shipping than on the U.S.

Despite those concerns, Vance agreed to back the consensus of President Donald Trump’s team and supported the strike. His effort to inject a moment of reflection was not appreciated by some senators, who told Jewish Insider they were “very concerned” about his views.

Ned Ryun said the anonymous complaints show just how fragile the establishment’s grip has become. “No more American empire,” he said. “If we’re going to use military power, it better be for American interests.”

Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) disagreed with Vance but admitted the vice president has always been consistent. Other Republicans, including Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT), said Vance represents the future of the party and that the critics are afraid of that shift.

Donald Trump Jr. called out the senators who refused to attach their names to their attacks. “If they really feel this way, then they should at least be man enough to put their names to these quotes,” he said.

Adding to the controversy, Jewish Insider had to correct its original article after it falsely claimed the Houthis were responsible for a deadly strike on U.S. troops in January. Vance publicly posted a screenshot of the error and questioned how such a mistake made it past the editors.
