Syria’s Christian Population Faces Annihilation As Islamist Regime Expands

Mass killings of Christians and Alawites in Syria have reached horrifying levels, with at least 1,800 people executed in recent days. Entire communities are being wiped out as Islamist forces, now in control of the government, continue their campaign of terror.

The situation unraveled after Assad’s government fell in December, allowing Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) to seize power. By January, Ahmed al-Sharaa was installed as Syria’s leader, and since then, targeted attacks on religious minorities have escalated.

Survivors describe villages burned to the ground and families slaughtered by government-backed fighters. Priests have been executed, churches have been set ablaze and residents have been driven into hiding. In some areas, reports indicate that militants are going door to door, ensuring no Christians or Alawites remain.

Despite mounting evidence of a religious purge, world leaders have done little in response. The United Nations has acknowledged “escalating violence” but failed to recognize the deliberate targeting of Christians. Meanwhile, mainstream news outlets have avoided discussing the religious aspect of the massacres, focusing instead on broader instability in Syria.

Israel, Syria’s powerful neighbor, has not acted to assist those under attack. Although Israeli officials have spoken about the dangers of jihadist rule, there has been no military intervention or humanitarian aid for Christian communities facing extermination.

With no international response, the massacres continue unchecked. The future of Syria’s Christian population remains uncertain as Islamist forces tighten their hold on the country.
